Behind the Glass

The most common complaint I hear from moms is "I am always the one taking the pictures and I'm never in any family pictures." Moms hire me because although they can take amazing pictures themselves, they want to get in the frame to document this time in their lives in the most important role they will ever have - being a mom. Trust me, I share that same sentiment. If you were to look through my own family photo books, you would wonder if my kids actually have a mom because I am always behind the camera. I personally hire a photographer every year for that exact reason. Time goes by so fast and no matter how you feel about having your picture taken...my best advice is to get in the picture now - no excuses. (You will never regret it).

So, who is that smiling reflection in the above image? That's a dear friend of mine, Erin, who is an amazing mother and takes beautiful photos of her own kids but is rarely in the photos - she is literally trapped behind the glass (a term photographers use to refer to their lens) like a lot of us "momtogs". I am beyond blessed to photograph this family every year - they have trusted me to document some of the most beautiful years of their lives and have let me into their world. Erin, you are gorgeous inside and out. Thanks for your trust in me. This post is dedicated to you. xo.

And, while I dedicate this post to Erin (and all the moms out there who are trapped behind the glass) we all know it would not be possible without the love, hard work and support of our other halves. I'll sign off here, with this couple image from 2014.
