Welcome, Will!

Last week I had the honor of photographing baby Will and his new family in East Grand Rapids. Last time I was in this home, I was photographing his big sister during her newborn session. Now, two years later, I was able to photograph her little brother and beautiful family of four during this newborn / lifestyle session.

So, what does a newborn lifestyle session entail? I have blogged a lot about this in the past. The focus is on natural everyday moments with your new baby in your own home using natural / available light. You can read more about my approach to newborn photography here. (If you look closely in this article, you will Will's big sister as a newborn - image #4).

What I haven't discussed in the past is what a gallery includes. Since newborn sessions are longer in nature (2-3 hours) and since I never set my camera down, you end up with a lot of files in your gallery (bonus: you get all your images with a print release!). If baby needs to be nursed, I use that time to photograph siblings on their adventures and scope out new lighting scenarios - back light, dappled light, window light...I love it all! Just as you will see a mix of lighting scenarios in your gallery, you will also see a mix of compositions and perspectives between posed and candids. There will be individual shots (just newborn), pairings (parent/child or siblings) and groupings (whole family). And, who knows you might just get a few fun surprises in your gallery that don't fit neatly into any category (that's my goal!).
