Kalamazoo Newborn Photographer | Hope

"Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness," Desmound Tutu

Charlie, 15 days old, evening session, Kalamazoo Michigan

Unprecedented, extreme, dark and harrowing are just a few adjectives that could be used to describe the year 2020. There is no doubt these descriptions are all accurate to describe the global pandemic we face around the world. However, as Desmound Tutu reminds us, "hope is being able to see that there is light despite the darkness." The above photograph from my recent newborn session in Kalamazoo, Michigan reminds us of Tutu's words. Surrounded by the darkness of the deep forest shade, is baby Charlie in her parents arms. Charlie's face is illuminated by the warm golden hour glow that breaks through that darkness, revealing love, connection and the miracle of life. Take a peek at some more pictures with this beautiful family.

Hold on a minute...outfit change!

I really enjoyed working with this incredible family. They have a great connection and more importantly, a great attitude! Read their response below from my newborn questionnaire..

Q: My style of newborn photography is more lifestyle and photo-journalistic than posed. I photograph babies in mom or dad's arms and in settings and poses that are real and authentic (in the bassinet, in the nursery, being rocked...). I want to capture the connection between the newborn and his/her new family. What are your thoughts on this style and what ideas come to your mind when you think of your own home and life?

Answer:

Love, love, love this style. We intentionally were looking for a photographer who shoots this way so we could have authentic family photos instead of something that feels forced or posed. If that means there’s a meltdown halfway through the photo shoot, go ahead and take a picture :)

So, there you have it - real life and a family who is able to embrace the ups and downs of parenthood with a good attitude and a lot of love.

"One look through Sarah’s portfolio was enough for us to decide we wanted newborn photos. Her style of photography lends itself well to capturing real life moments, creating authentic family photos we’ll be able to cherish forever. Working with Sarah was truly a joy – she maintained her consummate professionalism while making us feel comfortable and relaxed the entire time. We trusted Sarah to capture our first moments as a new family and she certainly delivered. The only challenging part will be deciding which photos to have framed!" - Client
