Sweet Success: Yell Sweets Detroit | Michigan Food Brand Photography

When I walked in to meet Danielle Jackson from Yell Sweets in Detroit, the smell of fresh strawberry shortcake and buttercream instantly said everything you need to know about Danielle Jackson’s craft — it’s made with precision, joy and heart!

This Yell Sweets session is one of my favorite examples of Michigan food brand photography — where artistry, community, and storytelling come together to showcase small business success.

Danielle, the creator behind Yell Sweets, has built a dessert brand that’s as warm and authentic as her smile.

Her strawberry parfaits — layered with crushed crumble, fresh berries, and cream — might just be one of the most photogenic (and delicious) things I’ve ever photographed (or tasted!)

I’ll admit it: I didn’t even make it home before tasting. I ate one of her strawberry shortcakes in traffic on the drive back to Kalamazoo — and it was, quite literally, a full-stop, out-of-this-world experience.

The Joy of Photographing Local Talent Through Michigan Food Brand Photography

This session was part of a project with Taste the Local Difference (TLD), highlighting Michigan’s food entrepreneurs who are redefining what local flavor means. My work with TLD takes me into kitchens, markets, farms, and food hubs across the state — and it never fails to remind me how powerful photography can be in helping small businesses grow.
