Last month, my family and I left on a road trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with our three kids and dog, Jett. The first stop on our trip was the Les Cheneaux islands, East of the Mackinac Bridge on Lake Huron. We stayed in an old rustic cabin on a channel of Lake Huron and spent our days relaxing and fishing. My oldest daughter surprised all of us (including herself) and caught two Pike, while the veteran fisherman came back empty handed. From Les Cheneaux we headed Northwest to Musining to see the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. I brought my big camera along for the boat ride but honestly didn't even bother to take a picture because I know that the beauty of this Lakeshore could not be captured and I was not going to be able to do it justice. The beauty of Pictured Rocks is simply jaw-dropping and I wanted to absorb it all without my camera (it definitely cast a spell on me for me to put down my camera). But honesty, it's unlike anything I have seen. Do yourself a favor and go see it. While at the lakeshore, we found the most amazing and rustic beaches and walked for miles without seeing a soul. We left Munising and headed back East to Tahquamenon Falls, where we explored the falls and camped along the river. Although we were only gone for a week, I fell in love with this place - the rich greens, oranges and blues, majestic landscapes and simpler lifestyle were exactly what I needed to recharge.
