10 on 10 / May

Love and Loss

Last month I was asked to be part of a blog circle with 11 other photographers from across the country. It was truly an honor to be asked to join this talented group of women! On the 10th of each month, we will post 10 of our favorite images and I will include a link in each post to one of these women's posts. I encourage you to follow that link and learn a little more about these amazing women. Personally, I look forward to joining these ladies on their photography journey and getting to know more about their personal lives through their imagery.

I debated what to include this month. It's been a busy month of client sessions, editing and the everyday duties of being a mom. I managed to score some amazing Golden Hour Lighting last week (good for the photog soul after a bleak Michigan Winter). However, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the love and loss that my family experienced this May, as we said good-bye to our beloved dog, Lily.

If you aren't a dog person, you might not connect with this post. If you are a dog lover, you will know that a dog loves in a way that the human rarely does - always unconditional, always forgiving, always in the moment. If you have ever lost a dog, you know that you lose a family member. For 10 years, Lily was our loyal, loving, affectionate, protective companion. She had long gazelle-like legs that paired well with her obsession for the water and retrieving. She never met somebody she didn't like. As much as she barked and threatened the UPS driver, she would be his best friend in an instant if he simply said hi or even better; picked up a ball. She didn't judge, she simply loved. When I brought my three children home from the hospital, Lily accepted them and my new role as a mom. It was around this time that I found my voice from behind the lens. Lily quickly became one of my favorite subjects to photograph. So, here it is - my first 10 on 10, in remembrance of Lily.

Make sure to stop over and see the very talented, Mary Colleen Grier in Madison, Alabama for a look at Mary's 10 on 10 from May. Beautiful work, Mary!

Rest in Peace, Lil! June 24, 2005- May 6 2016
